Many of us may not realize that we have started online marketing or social media marketing, without a plan.

We have a business, and since every business has a Facebook Page, therefore we should have it too.

If you have started an Instagram and/or Facebook Account, realizing its heard to grow your social media followers, or even be getting leads and enquiries, you may have started social media marketing without a plan. By now, you're probably asking yourselves this questions "Why am I not getting leads and enquiries on Facebook/Instagram?", "How can i engage my followers on Facebook/Instagram?", or "How can I get more followers on Facebook/Instagram?".

In this blog post, we will be sharing with you 5 questions you can ask yourself internally, and understand why it is important for you to start planning, and have a marketing strategy for your business, when marketing online.


Are you ready?

Question 1: How would you like to position your company in the market?

Question 2: How do you differentiate yourself from your competitors?

Question 3: How would you like to reach new customers?

Question 4: Why do you have a social media account? i.e. Facebook Business Page or Instagram Account.

Question 5: Are your customers on these Social Media platforms?

All of these are important questions that as a business owner, entrepreneur, and marketing manager, you need to be able to answer.

Having an online and/or social media marketing plan allows you to:

1. Identify what makes you different 

Alot of businesses has Unique Selling Points (USPs) - but these USPs were never told or shared regularly on the online, social or digital marketing platforms. Social Media Platforms allow you to engage with your potential buyers, customers and clients on a regular basis, and allows you to stay on top of their minds, but yet subtle about selling. Be it in Email Marketing Campaigns or Facebook Retargeting Advertisement Campaigns.

2. Not miss any big holiday collaborations

If you are in the e-commerce or online shopping business, you will be missing out on opportunities to collaborate with other brands or businesses to co-host a promotion or event together.

3. Be consistent in your marketing

There is no consistency in your sales and promotions if you do not have a marketing plan.

Having a marketing plan allows you to be consistent and in control of your marketing plan during national and public holidays that could have skyrocket-ed your sales. i.e. Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, School Holiday (Back to school promo), Christmas Holiday, etc.

The idea is this. If you want to gain more followers on social media, you need to relate to them, and you need a plan!

You need to organize what you want to do, and prioritize them. Some collaborations you thought of may take 3 to 6 months to happen. Because other brands have other plans in place, or maybe they're busy for that quarter.

When planning a holiday, or a trip, I will wait out for Friday or Tuesday. That's because, I can be sure to receive an email promotion from JetStar every Friday, and an email from Scoot every Tuesday in my inbox. Do i travel every month? No. Do i unsubscribe? No.

I don't want to miss a good deal. You get the point.

4. Consistency in Brand Awareness

If I am reminded of a brand every week, they stay at the top of my mind. They are the first brand i go to when i need something.

Take JetStar for example. Although there are apps like Skyscanner to compare flight prices, I still go to JetStar's website promotion tab first before I go to SkyScanner. And when i step back and ask myself why, there were many reasons, but i will just name a few:

I receive JetStar's email regularly every Friday. Their pricings are always transparent. Their website is easy to navigate. I have sat on a jetstar flight before, and the experience was good (for a budget flight). That's the reason why I keep coming back.

So if you own a Ecommerce or Online Store, you need to know that there are many reasons why a customer stays loyal to you.

5. Get more customers

If you are currently marketing online, or you own a Facebook Page, and you want more customers and followers. This is what online and social media allows you to do. However, you need to start a marketing plan.
